Though it seems catfish is a big thing in these parts, this takes me back to my childhood, when I lived in North Carolina for a short time, after leaving Austin. Had a lot of catfish there. But not only that, just a lot of southern cooking in general.
It was a cute touch that the waitress brought hush puppies with tartar sauce (like getting chips and salsa). And they were pretty good.
I got the little catfish plate, the spicy variant. You get 3 sides with any dinner plates so I got the creamy coleslaw, fried okra and green beans.
Catfish is nice and juicy. The breading is good but not spicy. I would have it again but will likely try the regular for comparison. Put lemon, salt and the malt vinegar and it's pretty darn good catfish.
The coleslaw is good. Everyone has their preferences in this arena but I like the creamy in this place over the vinegar based one.
The okra is as expected.
The green beans are great! Love them. Of course bacon makes anything better but they just taste good and have a good amount of salt in them.
Overall very happy. Will come here again if the opportunity presents itself. -

I dont know how this place stays open just based on location alone. Austin is making it hard to get over here just based on traffic.
I'll keep this simple.
Service - it is always down to earth and makes you feel like a back in the country establishment. Everyone is kind and polite and you will probably meet the manager and owners. They like to walk around and greet people. Seems lots of regulars go here. Including my in-laws.
Cleanliness - its ok. Maybe just due to the age of the place i feel like it is a little dirty.
Food - also just ok. It feels like a small step above home cooking. Everything is super fried. There are grilled options but when i leave here it is with a heavy stomach. The food and flavors are a bit generic for me. -

My wife and I returned to dine at the Catfish Parlour South and still looked the pretty much the same with its country style appearance with wood which looked like it came from an old barn. Inside there was a small bar with seating and we were escorted to a table. Everything here is pretty much catfish but there are some other options. Our waitress returned with hush puppy fingers and two varieties of tartar sauces where one was regular and the other jalapeño. The puppies were good especially with the jalapeño tartar sauce which was not spicy hot at all but had an excellent flavor.
I ordered the Grilled Catfish Dinner which came on a bed of rice. The catfish was nicely cooked and seasoned, but was a bit spongy perhaps due to it being farm raised.
This is a very family friendly place where half the customers had kids with them. I explored this place to find a mid sized party room and large party room to reserve. It was another great time and still raving about the jalapeño tartar sauce. -

Great food and excellent service. The complementary hush puppies they give you before you order are tasty. Awesome setup and I really enjoyed my meal here. I will definitely be back again.
